WHY WESTERN CAROLINA O&P CUSTOM AFO ORTHOSES ARE DIFFERENT?
Western Carolina O&P combines 35+ years of orthotic and lower extremity bio mechanical experience, with state of-the-art material and fabrication technologies, to build and fit the bests possible custom Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO)’s available. Our practitioners are patient outcome driven to achieve the very best results for our patients. The process starts with an extensive evaluation of the patient’s foot, ankle, and gait mechanics, including a comprehensive analysis of ROM, MMT, and mechanical dynamic gait. Once the dynamic forces and mechanical underlying condition are ascertained as to the pathology, a negative mold impression or 3D digital scan is taken of the patient’s affected lower extremity. A custom AFO is then designed and built in our lab to meet the treatment goals of healing and stabilizing the pathology. The patient is then fit with the custom device, all dynamic functional alignment is done, and the patient is given a wearing schedule and instruction sheet. We also see our patients for follow up appointments to make any modification and or adjustments to the orthotic device to make sure that we are on the right path to meeting all treatment goals. We are not happy with the device until the patient is happy, the physician is happy, and all treatment goals have been met.
